Costs of Laser Eye Surgery

On average, the cost of laser or LASIK eye surgery is about $1800 per eye. There are options like wavefront technology that when added will make the price go higher, but for basic surgery, thats the going rate.

Unless youve got some special options within your health insurance plan, chances are the procedure will not be covered. If you think it might pay, file a request and know that most offices will help you fill out the forms. Many doctors and clinics will offer a way to finance the surgery, and will arrange payment plans. You might end up with a low monthly payment depending on the total cost for your surgery as well as what your credit rating currently is. If the doctors dont actually finance this themselves, they may be able to find someone who will. Check out all of your options as well as the length of time you have to pay it back. Most offices providing LASIK do take credit cards so that can easily be an option especially if you can delay payments and sometimes the finance charges might be better than what the clinic can offer. Just like with any other medical procedure that you pay for directly, you may be able to deduct the expense on your income taxes. Those codes can be a bit tricky so it would pay to ask your accountant before deducting it on your tax forms. The laws change constantly and accountants are up on all that.

LASIK doesnt seem cheap and it isnt, but if you factor in all the contact lenses youve purchased or the number of eye glasses or prescription sunglasses and all the glasses youe lost - even drugstore readers - the idea of the surgery seems more reasonable.
