Which Vision Problem Do You Have

When confronting and looking for a solution to your eyesight problems, it pays to know just a little bit about the anatomy and the names of various eyesight issues. And it all starts with the lens and the cornea.

A normal eye works when rays of light pass through the lens and the cornea - at the front of the yes. The rays are bent or refracted as it is called, and then they come to a focal point on the macula - that part of the retina which is at the back of the eye. if the lens and the cornea become misshaped, then light is refracted differently and can be focused either behind the retina or in front of it. Nearsightedness or myopia is called when the eyeball is too long. It has too much focusing power and light rays come toa focal point in front of the retina. It means you can see images that are close but cant focus clearly on things in the distance. The opposite is true with hyperopia or farsightedness. Thats when the eyeball is too short or the focusing power of the lens is too weak. This is what causes vision to be blurry. An astigmatism is a completely different thing. It is a distortion in the shape of the cornea. Light isnt focused into a single point but enter the eye from the top and the bottom and forming a different line for the light. Presbyopia is when the eyes get older, and the eye has a harder time focusing on that that are up close. This is a part of the aging process.

Some of these issues we re born with or some we develope over time, and between corrective lens or LASIK, LSEK or other kinds of minor surgery, they can be corrected.
