The Two Types of LASIK Surgery

Laser correction surgery is a fantastic solution for many people who want to permanently correct their vision. They want to toss out eyeglasses or contacts and be done with them once and for all. LASIK surgery is very often the solution to their problems but everyone who is considering it should know that there are two different types of the procedure.

In LASIK surgery, the procedure is done with a blade or without a blade. Two totally different approaches. Of course, bladeless always sounds better but is it really? There is always risk whenever theres a blade around, and the bladeless version is very appealing. In either case, its all about the accuracy of the surgeon. With bladeless surgery, its proven safe and complications are rare. Surgeons can more accurately make the procedure without the worry of the cutting of a flap which is what decreases the odds of a major mistake. Bladeless surgery does cost more because the doctor has to invest in a separate laser in order to do these surgeries and many have been reluctant to make the investment. Also, studies say that one procedure is just as effective in the long term as the other so theres no bonus for paying more. As with any medical procedure, much of the success depends on the doctor and his skills. If hes a seasoned pro at the blade method, and the other choice is a doctor who has only recently started to perform bladeless surgeries, the best option might be the seasoned doctor. As with any LASIK surgery, it pays for the patient to do a lot of research in advance to even be knowledgeable about what questions to ask. Afterall, its your eyes, and whatever the outcome, you want to feel though youve had some control.
